September 24th to October 23rd

As one of the air signs, intellect takes priority for the Libra. It is influenced by the planet Venus, and therefore empathetic, understanding, and charming.

Characteristics

Libra stands for balance in all relationships, it strives for justice and harmony. When dealing with other people, it tries to avoid conflict, and in crisis situations, it tries to mediate. It is usually successful in this thanks to its peaceful ways and strong rhetoric. However, the Libra lacks inner balance – it finds it difficult to make decisions and feels that being alone is a huge burden. That’s why it is always looking for company, where it is highly popular thanks to its sensibilities and empathy. It strives for aesthetics and recognition. The Libra is friendly, optimistic, and tolerant, but can also be reckless, gullible, and temperamental. It is sometimes afflicted with melancholy, as it only feels comfortable in a completely harmonious setting. The Libra is always on the lookout for deep relationships with others and true love.

Relations

A Libra will get along especially well with the zodiacal signs Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius and Aquarius.

As both star signs are strongly driven by their emotions and curiosity, Libras and Gemini have a lot in common. Passion is at the forefront, meaning that the right harmony can be created for the Libra and a sense of comfort can be instilled in the Gemini.

Thanks to the compliant nature of the Libra, they get on well with the more dominant Leo. This, too, is a relationship full of passion and warmth. Together, they are a pair that stands out with their style and exquisite tastes.

The Sagittarius' passion for adventure keeps its partner on its toes, and it prevents boredom from arising, which can be particularly interesting to a Libra. While a Libra may calm the pace of Sagittarius, the Sagittarius helps the Libra out of its indecisiveness. Both signs of the Zodiac therefore complement one another excellently.

In the Aquarius, the Libra also sees an adventurous person that promises a lot of diversification. Both enjoy the company of others and do not limit their own freedom. Deep affection forms the basis of this relationship.

Mythology

It is thought that even the Sumerians named the constellation after the scales, as at that time, the sun was in this constellation during the equinoxes. The Babylonians, ancient Greeks, and Arabic astronomers saw the sign as the claws of the scorpion. It was only in 100 AD that the current name for Libra was introduced by the Romans and incorporated into the Zodiac. As it is the only sign of the Zodiac represented by an object and not a living creature, it stood as a symbol for justice and balance between all beings.

Astrology

Libra is the seventh sign of the Zodiac and spans between the 180th and 209th degrees of celestial longitude. In astronomy, the Libra is characterized as “masculine,” positive, and extroverted. According to traditional tropical zodiac astrology, the sun enters Libra at the moment of the northern fall equinox on September 23rd, where it stays until October 22nd. In sidereal astrology, the sun transits the Libra constellation between October 16th and November 15th.
